As far as music goes this is the closest I get to actually hating a song or piece of music. It's got that 'Sunday night before you go back to school' thing about it, which is odd because when I was at school it was only on Monday and Wednesday nights.
I honestly feel nauseous when I hear it, which isn't good because it seems to be on twice a night every night of the week these days. The source of the problem, like most things, goes back to my childhood.
When I was 5 years old my dad had a stroke and spent a lot of time in hospital. As a result the six of us were distributed around various relatives houses whilst my mum got to grips with the situation. At a time when I was worried about Dad, missing my mum and in need of a good game of footy with my brothers it seemed that the only form of entertainment or comfort on offer was Corobloodynation Street.
Don't get me wrong, my Aunty Maureen and Aunty Anna were amazing and I love them dearly, but nothing could make me feel any better about the situation, especially not Coronation Street. Add all of the above to the unfamiliar smells, different food and strangeness you feel when you stay away from home as a kid it's hardly any wonder I dislike it so much. I'm amazed it's lasted so long without a 'funky' kinda 'bring it up to date' zush. Not that it would make any difference to me, I'll always want to puke when I hear it regardless.
